About 1,100 miles, 2–3 days on the truck, and $1,000–$1,250 on an open carrier. Which side of the state you live on changes the road, the wait and sometimes the price.
Shipping a car from Pennsylvania to Florida costs $1,000–$1,250 on an open carrier and $1,500–$1,700 enclosed, for a standard running vehicle. The trip is about 1,100 miles and 2–3 days on the truck. The detail most people miss: eastern and western Pennsylvania use different highways south, so a Pittsburgh quote and a Philadelphia quote can differ on the same day.
How much is it each way?
Coming back north costs a little less than going south, open and enclosed.
| Direction | Open carrier | Enclosed carrier |
|---|---|---|
| Pennsylvania to Florida | $1,000–$1,250 | $1,500–$1,700 |
| Florida to Pennsylvania | $950–$1,200 | $1,350–$1,600 |
| South and back, open | $1,950–$2,450 |
The band is priced on a Philadelphia 19107 to Tampa 33602 trip; the Philadelphia to Tampa route page covers that city pair. Pittsburgh, Allentown or Harrisburg pickups, and Orlando, Naples or Fort Lauderdale deliveries, are different trips; send me both ZIP codes for your price.
Why does a Pittsburgh pickup cost or take more than Philadelphia?
Philadelphia sits right on I-95, the main road south, which makes it one of the easier Northeast pickups to dispatch. Western Pennsylvania goes down I-79 and I-77 through West Virginia and the Carolinas instead. That road is slower and fewer carriers run it, so a Pittsburgh car can wait longer for a truck and sometimes prices higher. In deep winter a Pittsburgh pickup can also slip a day for snow; Philadelphia rarely does.
When is the busy season from Pennsylvania?
Autumn going south, with snowbirds from Philadelphia and the Poconos and retirees moving down from Pittsburgh. If you want a set week in October or November, book a few weeks ahead. Many of the cars are family SUVs, sedans and well-kept older vehicles making the same trip every year; they ride fine open. The snowbird car shipping guide covers timing both legs.
Shipping a car from Florida back to Pennsylvania
Northbound runs $950–$1,200 open and $1,350–$1,600 enclosed, busiest in April and May. The same east–west split applies. A Philadelphia delivery stays on I-95 and is quick to schedule. A Pittsburgh delivery takes the truck off the interstate through West Virginia, which adds close to a day and fewer carriers want it, so book that one with more lead time than the miles suggest.
